KIMBERLEY MARTIN PRESENTED ON FARM SUCCESSION PLANNING FOR THE TASMANIAN CONVENTION OF THE TAX INSTITUTE

Kimberley Martin, a Director of Worrall Moss Martin Lawyers, presented a seminar about farm succession planning for the Tasmanian Convention of the Tax Institute at the Country Club Tasmanian, Launceston on 19-20 October 2017.

Succession and estate planning in a family farming business can be complex, and often involves juggling the needs, and wants of the “retiring” generation, the new farmer(s) and their partners, and often siblings of the new farmers who will not be involved in farming in the future.   There is often a long multi-generational family history, family members at different ages and stages, large and valuable land assets, and often a “spoonful of emotional baggage” to boot.

Kimberley’s seminar and comprehensive paper covered

  • starting the discussion about succession and estate planning
  • implementing good estate and succession planning
  • planning to avoid challenges or reduce the risk of Family law problems, family provision (TFM) claims, and promissory estoppels/constructive trust claims
  • duty exemptions
  • GST and CGT exemptions and concessions that may be available

WMM Law congratulates Kimberley for this significant achievement in presenting about a subject on which she is an acknowledged expert.
